(kids deserve many things besides that, of course; they deserve access to boisterous spaces of their peers where they can learn to exist in society, build friendships, make mistakes, and get through the struggles of becoming an adult human. but i personally find it most motivating to start from that case of the little desk in a supportive environment because so many kids are denied that.)
