Other people’s voices 🔗

I’m very susceptible to how other people talk. I pick up someone’s accent, phrasing, word choices, and so on. Really quickly. In a single conversation. To the point where I have to be really aware of it and hold back, worried it might seem mocking.

I do something similar, especially with writing. In seventh grade, for instance, my teacher accused me of plaigarism because, when I wrote book reports, my writing style would take on elements of the author’s. She and my mother (also a writing teacher) poured over the source material and never found the alleged thing I copied, because it didn’t exist. I just naturally took on elements of the book’s style when writing about it.
