My first week with EVDB has
been taken up with things like filling out all of those
wonderful starting-a-new-job forms, configuring my shiny new
work-issued 15-inch
Powerbook (which I’ve named Roisin) to be a nice
development box, getting up to speed on the various bits of
the system, and seeing the new Star Wars movie. I made my
first (inert) Subversion commit on Wednesday, and am hoping to
really crank out features for the site in the next few weeks.
EVDB is in La Jolla, 10
miles as the car drives from where I live in University
Heights. But I don’t drive, and the various combinations of
bus routes (6
& 41,
15
& 150)
I’ve been experimenting with take anywhere from just under an
hour to about 90 minutes to take me door-to-door. So I’ve been
getting a lot more reading in than I used to.
Speaking of reading, I’m most of the way through War
for the Oaks by Emma Bull, and am enjoying it quite a bit.
You might think of it as a much lighter Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but set
in late 1980’s Minneapolis and with Priss from
"Bubblegum Crisis" as the main character. Faerie
wars, motorcycles, and rock & roll: it’s hard to go
wrong with such a combination.
