I've been looking to add a pilot's watch to my collection for years and I think I've finally found the one: Seiko's Prosper Sky Navitimer SRPB59. I picked one up on Chrono24 the other day. I believe the model is from 2017. and I think they only made them for a year or so. I feel like I keep a pretty good eye on JDM sites like sakurawatches
but had never even heard of this until a month or so ago.
I want to like the Breitling Navitimer, but ultimately I'm put off by the busy dial. I mean, until this watch, every watch with a slide rule bezel I’d ever seen are chronographs with two or three subdials. Not here though. The SRPB59's dial is very clean and legible. The slide rule is the only busy thing about it.
Size wise, I'm a member of the IBWC and this is just about the biggest watch I can get away with. It's a bit of a stretch, but the lugs don't stick out past my wrist so I'm calling it a win.
The leather strap it came on (see photo 3) is surprisingly good, but I’ve swapped it out for a Strap Habit × Brodinkee “Real Men Wear Pink” sailcloth strap which, in addition to looking great and being comfortable AF, raises money for breast cancer research. The watch itself is so masc I really need the strap to femme it up.
