It’s hard to focus on what I’m thankful for right now. This country had a choice between a competent, moderate woman of color and an authoritarian demagogue; it chose the demagogue. A demagogue, I might add, who ran on a platform of demonizing people like me.
And yet I have so much to be thankful for: I’m healthy, as are my loved ones. My partner and my kiddo bring so much joy to my life. We live in a delightful neighborhood of a vibrant city. EJ & I bike to school. I get paid a decent amount to do something I love to do, and I get to travel the world doing it. I receive world-class healthcare from experts in gender-affirming care. Life is, all things considered, quite good, modulo the creeping return of fascism.
I’m visiting my parents this week, and cramming in visits with other family and friends while here. It’s been so, so nice to see everyone. You could easily forget about the state of the world for a time.
