The first-ever San Diego Beer Week kicks off today, and I’m super excited. I’ll be spending much of the week all along the 2 line, enjoying amazing craft beer from some of the country’s best tap lists. The SDBW calendar is simply overflowing with awesome things to do this week. Here’s what I’ve penciled in for each day of the week. Most of the below is provisional—I intend to skip many times as many events as I attend—so don’t be surprised if you don’t see me at one of these things.
-
We’re going to ease into things tonight with a low-key dinner at Sea Rocket Bistro, where they’ll be serving Green Flash’s new gruit on cask.
-
Blind Lady Ale House is a great pizza-and-beer joint in Normal Heights. (I reviewed BLAH on this blog back in June.) I might make it to their Barrel-aged beer fest tomorrow afternoon.
The other big option Saturday is the San Diego Brewers’ Guild’s festival, which promises to be as awesome as it is loud and crowded.
-
We’ll be hitting The Linkery this Sunday afternoon for the Green Flash Smoke Out. Six casks of GF beer, five taps, and amazing Linkery smoked meats to boot. Definitely not seeing the downside of this one.
-
At some point this weekend it’d be nice to make it to O’Brien’s for their Alpine-heavy weekend of awesomeness, though I doubt I will.
-
There’s a Unibroue flight night at Small Bar on Monday that sounds yummy.
-
I think I’ve somehow managed to keep Tuesday free. My liver will thank me for this some day, once it forgives me for the rest of the week.
-
Downtown Johnny Brown’s is having a barrel-aged beer night on Wednesday. I think I’ll either go to this xor to BLAH’s previously-mentioned barrel-aged beer fest.
-
Liars’ Club Redux at Hamilton’s is the must-attend event of Thursday. Two words: Black Lie. There’s also the Green Flash progressive dinner along 30th St. It’d be nice to hit up Ritual and Toronado for that.
As if all that weren’t more than enough, the Ruby Room—conveniently-located right around the corner from our apartment—is having a Green Flash night.
-
It might be back to BLAH on Friday for their Green Flash Cask Tapping.
-
On Saturday I have a shot at trying bashah, the BrewDog/Stone collaboration that eluded me when we were in Scotland a few weeks ago.
Also on Saturday: a sourfest at BLAH and the Green Flash 7th Anniversary Festival.
-
While there are events scheduled for next Sunday, I think it will be best to treat Sunday as the day of rest it was always intended to be.
Cheers!
