I’ve lived in California for almost twenty years, but Massachusetts will always be home.

This election is an especially important one for many reasons. This isn’t a general post though, I just want to focus on one aspect of this election in particular. You see, the Massachusetts law which provides public accommodations protections for transgender people is up for repeal.

This law ensures that people like me can go about our ordinary, boring daily lives just like anybody else. We can drink too much coffee from Dunkin’s on the way to work and not have to fear when we have to duck into a bathroom to do the same thing that everyone does in a bathroom.

I have lots of family in Massachusetts, and we don’t always see eye to eye politically on any number of issues. This one, though. This one is simple. Do you want me to feel safe when Erin, Erin, and I come to visit? Do you want to be able to look me in the eye next Christmas?

Vote Yes on 3. Tell your friends to, too. Tell them this one’s personal, because it is. (Photo: a banner unfurled at Game 5 of the World Series by members of the @translatinacoalition reading “trans people deserve to live.”)
