Bernal Star, 13-year-old burger and brunch spot, evicted, moving into sister restaurant
Bernal Star, a beloved spot for burgers and patio brunches for 13 years, will close its original location at 410 Cortland Ave. this Sunday, after rent negotiations with the landlord failed, its owner said. The silver lining is: It will serve brunch and lunch again starting Aug. 30 at Vega Pizzeria just across the street, which its owners, Vega Freeman-Brady and Giuseppe Manna, also run.

@mcc@mastodon.social I lost the link, apologies, but was reading an interesting argument the other day that transphobes focus on AFAB adolescents and AMAB adults so that either way, they can hand-wring about the "purity" of young girls — either in the Irreversible Damage sense of stigmatizing transition for AFAB teens, or in the "men in locker rooms" sense targeted at adults. (Apologies for as much essentialism as is embedded in A*AB, trying only to describe the essentialism used by transphobes.)

Concept: Star Trek spinoff series set in the Q Continuum. Every episode depicts the Continuum as an entirely different setting and with a variety of period costumes, for the sake of the audience's limited human ability to perceive it (one episode will absolutely be be a Dixon Hill noir-parody complete with narration). The show is a fairly deadpan comedy, of which the primary running gag is that the plot is largely incomprehensible owing to the fact that every single major character is named "Q" and the dialogue does absolutely nothing to mitigate this. A pivotal moment at the end of a late-season episode is a dramatic revelation to the tune of "Wait, who was it? Q, or Q?" "Neither. *It was Q*" and then doesn't clarify which of three equally-plausible characters it could be to for the next three episodes. Another, smaller running gag is that once an episode, someone mentions Quinn, or some other Q who took on a unique name, and this is the only time the Q's don't immediately know which Q they're talking about, i.e. "At least we don't have to worry about Q's antics anymore." "Wait, *which* Q?" "Oh, uh, Quinn." "Say goodbye, Q." "(turns) Oh. (calls out) <i>Goodbye, Q!"</i> The actors may be told which Q is which, and even the scripts they're given might be written as "Where's Q-Jane?" "Oh, I saw her with Q-Marcie and Q-Bill" or by the names of the actors, and that might be how they do some of the rehersals. But by the time anything is actually recorded, they're saying "Where's Q?" "Oh, I saw her with Q and Q". Actors auditioning for this series are chosen specifically for their ability to say things like that with a completely straight face.
