I don't understand "newsletters". They're like blogs, but you can't link your friends to them because you get them in your email, and you don't want to spam your friends with email forwards. wtf?

US mainstream media does report on discrete events but fails to connect the dots, to say what it all means. Analysis, history, context, and structural explanation of events have been banished to the 'opinion' section, yet another sign of the fascist takeover they refuse to name.

Two principles of code readability I had drummed into me in my mid-20s: 1. "Comprehending" code means being able to correctly predict what it will do without running it. 2. A unit of code is "comprehensible" if you can predict what it will do without having to look inside any other units it uses. Boxes should be meaningfully labeled so you don't have to open them to see what they do.

I know this is very childish of me, as “Gesundheitsminister” is a perfectly ordinary, respectful German word ... but to my Anglophone ear it just sounds like an evil troll from a Brothers Grimm tale who kidnaps children and makes them sneeze non-stop until they drop dead.
