Rotterdam
Hidde hosted an AB meeting in his home city of Rotterdam. I’m grateful that the heatwave had broken before I got there. I missed the first half-day—I had been in Geneva that morning, and only got to AMS in the early afternoon. Fortunately, the airport is only about a half-hour’s train ride from Rotterdam Centraal, and our meeting was, very conveniently, located in the train station itself.
This was the AB’s first meeting of its new term so, on top of progressing our existing projects, we selected this term’s chairs—Brent and
李安琪—and spent some time identifying our priorities for the coming year.
It’s always great when most of us can be there in person, and turnout was particularly good this time:
Amy,
Brent,
Dan,
丁蔚,
Elena,
Hidde,
李安琪,
Max,
太田
Hidde organized a web developer meetup on Thursday night, hosted by and at Level Level, that was timed to coincide with the AB being in town. Cyd Stumpel, Dan, and Cynthia Shelly each presented, and I had a ton of fun chatting with and getting to know a bunch of the attendees.
Friday night, after we wrapped up, we had an epic time doing karaoke at the Duke of Tokyo.
This was my first visit to Rotterdam—and only my second to the Netherlands—and I really enjoyed my (brief) visit. Much of the city center was destroyed during the war, and they chose to rebuild it in a modern style, so the architecture really stands out relative to other Dutch cities.
Alice & Zoë very kindly drove down to Rotterdam to have brunch with me on the moring of the 4th, and dropped me at AMS afterwards. I’m so glad we got to spend time with each other.
