I was in Geneva this week for a meeting of Ecma’s Executive Committee, the group charged with advising Ecma’s General Assembly on governance matters.

I arrived the night before & had dinner just up the hill from my hotel (the citizenM) at La Favola in Geneva’s Vieille Ville.

We jumped right into business the following morning; Jochen, the chair, kept us on task and ahead of schedule. Andrew, Ayla, Peter, and I were there in person, as well as Samina, Harm-Jan, Aki, and much of the rest of the Secretariat, and a number of colleagues dialed in from many other time zones. Dinner that night was at the Hotel d’Angleterre—the same spot where we celebrated Ecma’s back in June. The stragglers found their way to Little Barrel for a nightcap afterwards.

Those of us who had traveled from afar were back in the office Friday morning; Peter showed off a fun e-ink clock powered by Moddable’s implementation of ECMA-419. We went our separate ways after lunch at Monsieur Ador.

Peter built an Ecma face for the clock; since there have been almost 60 technical committees, he used them as the seconds “hand”.

I worked the rest of the day from my hotel room, had a quiet dinner at Le Darshana, then made my way to Les Cinémas du Grütli for Everybody’s Perfect—Geneva’s queer film festival—where I caught the Swiss premiere of 和晓丹 (Hé Xiǎodān)’s stunning Montréal, ma belle (Montreal, My Beautiful). I ended my night at Le Phare, surprising nobody.
