I don’t like to make New Year’s resolutions. That being said, I’ve been enjoying seeing people choose their theme word for 2008, and got to thinking about my own.
I feel like, while my input remained about the same in 2007, my output decreased, especially at the tail end of the year. For instance, I’ve been tumblelogging much less frequently lately. Like Kevin, I think this is due to twitter and my Google Reader shared items fulfilling substantially the same need. Google Reader’s share button is probably also responsible for my dip in bookmarking on del.icio.us.
But the output drop hasn’t just been in blogging. In a sense, I’ve been in read-only mode. I’ve kept up with projects and communities that matter to me, but haven’t really contributed much to them, be it code or prose. So, inspired by Christian’s 2007 resolutions, I’m commiting to make 2008 a read-write year. I intend to write more, release more, contribute more, and code more.
My theme word for 2008 is output.
