Lovely. (r/STOscreenshots) | |
For reference, here are a bunch of [Blood Oath screencaps](https://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=38). (r/sto) | |
YESSSSSSS (r/sto) | |
I wish the Roman science vessels that have rings would get the D'Kyr skin. (r/sto) | |
It's the White Star! (r/sto) | |
You sound like somebody who should be left alone. (r/sto) | |
Yup, it does it in windowed mode too. Tried lots of different resolutions; it always flickers. (r/sto) | |
Looks like 48 and 60 are the only two options. I've tried both. (r/sto) | |
I think I've tried everything you've suggested, to no effect.
> You could try clearing sto's cache/logs/prepatch folders as sometimes, they will get corrupted and cause issues like this.
I tried this, but it didn't appear to fix anything.
> OP: Download your display drivers. Remove them, and reinstall your display drivers.
Done.
> Which GPU do you have?
Intel Iris Xe
> Also, make sure vertical sync in turned on.
I've turned it on in both the Intel settings and the STO settings. (r/sto) | |
Marked as "spoiler" because it flickers a ton. In this video I'm not moving at all—the flicker is basically constant when moving my character around.
I've tried changing STO's display and graphics settings quite a bit (from potato to "all the bells and whistles", from windowed to fullscreen, etc.) and nothing makes the flickering go away.
Other games (Cities: Skylines, Dorfromantik) do not flicker.
Note that UI (dialog boxes, etc.) don't flicker.
This is particularly frustrating as STO is basically the only reason I bought this computer.
I've [posted in the official forums about this](https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1262737/constant-flickering-on-space-and-ground-maps-on-a-dell-xps-13-9310) too, and I filed a support ticket (#553257). (r/sto) | |
Constant flickering on space and ground maps on a Dell XPS 13 9310 (r/sto) | |
If you don't play that often, and miss the event, you're kinda screwed though. Mission sets are available long after the mission is first added to the game. (r/sto) | |
You can turn them back into marks‽ (r/sto) | |
What are the best items to use Ultimate Tech Upgrades on? (r/sto) | |
I used to craft Lirpas. Can’t craft melee weapons at all now. :( (r/sto) | |
Why is there no Delta Sector / Ponor Sector connection? (r/sto) | |
What ship is that? (r/STOscreenshots) | |
I'm seeing this too. (r/sto) | |
That page doesn’t make any recommendations for boff ground traits. (r/stobuilds) | |
What are the best boff ground traits these days?
Last I looked into it, it didn't matter what your away team's traits are. Maybe it does these days? (r/stobuilds) | |
I've often done it the other way—I "promote" BOFFs to Alts. (r/sto) | |

Vulcan costumes in Illusion of Communication (r/stocostumes) | |
My favorite moment from the first of the two new episodes (r/sto) | |
I’m so sad I missed getting the Alliance ship. It was the first anniversary ship I didn’t get. (r/sto) | |
Great name for an Intel ship there… (r/sto) | |
Nor the ski suit from last year. (r/sto) | |
All I want for Christmas are proper KDF uniforms from the Animated Series:
[http://www.trektoy.com/forum/gallery\_images/1278309903/med\_gallery\_502\_25\_78070.jpg](http://www.trektoy.com/forum/gallery_images/1278309903/med_gallery_502_25_78070.jpg)
I approximate it for my Klingon captain with the Mercenary top, but it's just not the same. (r/sto) | |
I hope the cross-faction unlock mechanic will be extended to Romulan ships; my Vulcan science officer main would love to fly one of those Rom sci warbirds. (r/sto) | |
dawwwwh. sending fellow tall girl sto player love to you both. (r/sto) | |
The Romulan diplomatic outfit (available from the Embassy tailor) looks pretty Vulcan if you put it in shades of blue. (r/sto) | |
I think they'll be more like TOS captains, except for a) a Romulan-like ability to choose their Fed/KDF alignment and b) starting at endgame & skipping most of the story progression. (r/sto) | |
I made a Fed Delta Recruit last time, but didn't bother creating KDF or Rom ones. So this go-around I'll make those two. Gorn Tac and Alien Sci, probably. (r/sto) | |
Assuming it'd be too hard to change the *level* progression, here's a way to tweak the *rank* progression to be somewhat more reasonable:
* 1: Cadet
* 3: Ensign
* 10: Lieutenant J.G.
* 20: Lieutenant
* 30: Lieutenant Commander
* 40: Commander
* 45: Captain
* 50: Commodore / Rear Admiral, Lower Half
* 55: Rear Admiral / Rear Admiral, Upper Half
* 60: Vice Admiral
* 65: Admiral
* 70: Fleet Admiral
If the *level* progression can change too, here's what I'd do:
* 1: Cadet
* 10: Ensign
* 20: Lieutenant J.G.
* 30: Lieutenant
* 40: Lieutenant Commander
* 50: Commander
* 60: Captain
* 70: Commodore / Rear Admiral, Lower Half
* 80: Rear Admiral / Rear Admiral, Upper Half
* 90: Vice Admiral
* 100: Admiral
* 110: Fleet Admiral (r/sto) | |
This is the most likely option, I think. (r/sto) | |
You can wear club wear on Drozana and Risa too. (r/sto) | |
Not only was it a great T5 ship (one that I miss and would love a T6 of), but it comes with arguably the best shuttle in the game. (r/sto) | |
I would love this.
Also, just a sort items feature at all for the account bank. (r/sto) | |
I crafted a really nice lirpa for my main (a Vulcan science officer) a long time ago, before the R&D redo removed the ability to craft melee weapons. I feel pretty lucky that I did, given the dearth of lirpas since then! (r/sto) | |
You are my hero. (r/sto) | |
Hanging out in the Reman area on New Romulus. (r/sto) | |
Yes. It got renamed recently. (r/sto) | |
The shoulders on Discovery Captain match the Admiral's uniform as seen in the premiere. Maybe they could rename it to Discovery Admiral and add a Captain's tunic whose shoulders do the right thing?
Dunno about the elbow patches.
Another big issue is that you can't make it white like the medical uniforms—if you try, you get gray. (r/sto) | |
I miss flying my D'Kyr.
The shuttle though, that's my main's shuttle since forever. It's (IMO) the best shuttle in the game. (r/sto) | |
Yes please. I didn't start playing until the summer after they ran that. (r/sto) | |
Or you could just run a beam boat on this ship like you want to (and use Super Charged Weapons with some other ship/build if you want to). (r/sto) | |
I ended up buying a cheap PC laptop just to play STO on. (r/sto) | |
Charming. I bet you get a lot of dates with that attitude. (r/sto) | |
The experimental proton weapon is already upgradeable. They've just changed the set of upgrades that apply to it. (r/sto) | |
Yes yes yes this this this (r/sto) | |
Well, given the stated goal of "Choices should be meaningful – Anywhere the game gives you a choice, there should be no choice that you always take nor one you never take", you have to expect them to make changes that move the game away from the current always-ico meta. (r/sto) | |
If they add a Lukari boff, I sure hope it'd have a space trait (or two). Most (all?) of the one-off species boffs only have ground traits. (r/sto) | |
Oh my God. (r/sto) | |
Same. Oh well. (r/sto) | |
I'm a huge fan of the [Tal'Kyr](http://sto.gamepedia.com/Tal%27Kyr_Support_Craft), and the [Protonic Arsenal 3-piece set](http://sto.gamepedia.com/Protonic_Arsenal) is perfect on it. (r/sto) | |
I'm so glad you said "trawled" instead of the all-too-common "trolled." I dunno why that's a pet peeve of mine, but there you go. (r/sto) | |
Has this been listed in the "Known Issues" list on any patch notes? If not, how do we best bring it to the attention of the Cryptic folk who lurk here? (r/sto) | |
The various Reddit fleet requirements are quite reasonable, and can be found in the sidebar. (r/sto) | |
It's part of the Elegant jacket, which is a mission reward. (r/sto) | |
IIRC male characters can only wear the chest piece, and female characters can only wear the belt. There's probably more wrong with it than that. (r/sto) | |
I would love a "dry dock for boffs". (r/sto) | |
I wish the Guardian just was a T6 Amby / could use Amby parts. (r/sto) | |
Command and Operations colors were different in that era: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Starfleet_uniform_(2250s-2260s) (r/sto) | |
Awesome, thanks! (r/sto) | |
They're essential, especially for the Voth battlezone. (r/sto) | |
I never see them in the New Romulus Command Center. (r/sto) | |
Frosted boots. (r/sto) | |
Here's a dumb question. How do you unlock the event store (on the Events tab under Reputation)? I've done it before, and I seem to remember it being easy on Risa, but I visited the winter wonderland with my AoY character and she doesn't have the store unlocked. (r/sto) | |
Do you still have the starter ship itself? If not, you can't get its admiralty card.
At least, that's how it works on PC. (r/sto) | |
"File Commendation Reports" from a console. In the Starfleet starbase, it's in the room directly opposite the transporter room. (r/sto) | |
That you can turn in excess CXP at the fleet starbase for flarks, and if you don't, they cap at 150lotsofzeroes. I must have wasted so many! (r/sto) | |
Still restricted for me, at least on my Romulan characters. (r/sto) | |
Which long jacket? (r/sto) | |
I tried to recreate the outfit you see various NPCs walking around in at New Romulus Command. (In my headcanon, the PC Republic uniform is for officers, and this one is for enlisted.) The actual NPCs wear a combination of Uniform and Off-Duty parts, so you can't quite do it, but you can get pretty close. (r/sto) | |
My attempt to recreate the "enlisted" Romulan Republic uniform (r/sto) | |
That's how K-13 looked for me, on Tribble, on Mac (via Wine).
It looks normal on a Windows machine. (r/sto) | |
Doubtful. The Tzenkethi are definitely alien. http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Tzenkethi (r/sto) | |
Annorax 4eva (r/sto) | |
This. (r/sto) | |
On PC, this is something that only works for me on some characters. My Delta Recruits and AOY character can't hide weapons at all. (r/sto) | |
This is the coolest thing. (r/sto) | |
794
@hmallow42 (r/sto) | |
The Bajoran uniforms work in a pinch. (r/sto) | |
HOLY &*%$ING $*%&BALLS (r/sto) | |
> The Bank and Mail interact on Kobali Prime is no longer restricted to one player at a time.
YES!!!! (r/sto) | |
I don't think they'll ever add additional items to the reputations. (r/sto) | |
This. (r/sto) | |
794 (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I actually want them to *add* the AoY film grain to the rest of the game's TOS-era content.
(And to add a pref to turn film grain off everywhere, for the haters out there.) (r/sto) | |
I've seen this a bunch, where sometimes I'll get the Admiralty card for a ship and sometimes I don't. I haven't noticed a pattern at all.
It'd be nice if there was an "Issue me Admiralty cards for all ships I currently have" button somewhere, as a workaround. (r/sto) | |
Does the character already have a BIC console? (r/stobuilds) | |
I've only managed to get my AoY character far enough along to *maybe* get the Ophidian Cane. Ugh. (r/sto) | |
The Bajoran uniforms might also work well for this, with those shoulder thingies. (r/sto) | |
Since my main is a Vulcan, I named mine USS Intrepid NCC-1631. (r/sto) | |
That worked, thanks! (r/sto) | |
Character is Talasha@hmallow42 if any devs happen by. (r/sto) | |
tl;dr I can't tell if my AoY character is a Temporal recruit or not. How can I check? Any ideas very welcome.
(Edit: dropped the longer explanation, as SubcommanderKinanra answered the question.) (r/sto) | |
Yay! (r/sto) | |
Do the wings articulate? (r/sto) | |
Namely, I'm hoping [Spoiler](/s "that it turns up in 2410 in an all-captains featured episode. Remember that when it disappeared in that one mission, Daniels said something about that not being the last you'd see of it.") (r/sto) | |
I'm hoping [Spoiler](/s "Deep Space K-13, which is visible in 2409/2410 sector space on Tribble") will turn out to be a TOS social zone. (r/sto) | |
Yes, it's part of the Yesterday's War arc that /u/go_faster1 mentioned. (r/sto) | |
It's also interesting that the starbase in Beyond is called "Starbase Yorktown"—perhaps the Yorktown gets destroyed in this STO mission, and the starbase in Beyond is named after it? (The STO mission predates Beyond in the Kelvin timeline, as evidenced by the ST/STID uniforms.) (r/sto) | |
As one of the crew members of the fan club for which this ship is named, this put a smile on my face today. Thanks for making it! (r/sto) | |
Screenshot? (r/sto) | |
I am going to Space Barbie this SO HARD (r/sto) | |
> Removed eyeshadow from Vulcan males.
*sadface* (r/sto) | |
Something else to consider: Space Station K-13 is visible in the 25th Century Beta Quadrant. Go ahead, fly on up to it.
Hot take: K-13 is to TOS captains as the Flotilla is to Rom captains. I'm betting TOS captains will be able to use it as their specific faction hub.
Hotter take: one of the FEs that launches with the expansion will involve a story related to K-13 reappearing in the 25th Century. (r/sto) | |
If you're doing solo content and battlezones, this is less relevant, but for ground queues I've been using Take Cover (a Command specialization module). (r/stobuilds) | |
I'm hoping there's some kind of temporal mechanic to let characters switch between the 23rd and 25th century sector space, so we can go back whenever we want. (r/sto) | |
Temporal agents don't bring my admiral into the future. She flies there herself in her Annorax. (r/sto) | |
Good point. Ugh, I want the goodies but don't want to roll 4 more chars. 6 is plenty already. (r/sto) | |
Why not just make one character that's both a Temporal Recruit AND a TOS Captain? (r/sto) | |
TIL that was Noye. (r/sto) | |
WHAT DID THEY GIVE YOU (r/sto) | |
Why? There have got to be several more efficient ways to earn dil. (r/sto) | |
The Andorian you got in the old Fed tutorial. Still play the character, but all her BOFFs are purple these days. :) (r/sto) | |
Did you name your ship after Craig Federighi? (r/stobuilds) | |
This is really quite amazing. Well done!
Nits:
* The shading for the Klingon Empire and Vaaduar space look too similar, given the way the DQ is mashed up against the BQ
* The DQ could stand to be more distinct from the BQ (r/sto) | |
Pretty excited about this, but I'll definitely only be doing it on my main, unlike the CC and MI events. Into The Breach is too long a queue for alts to complete this. (r/sto) | |
The Annorax has a hangar. (r/stobuilds) | |
Yeah.
OK, so what are the incentives to vote? If your candidate wins, you get a spec point? (r/sto) | |
I'm imagining the progress bars for the global events they've run. But one progress bar for each candidate.
Should each Starfleet character get a vote? Or each account? Only characters above a certain level on the date the election starts (to avoid spamming votes from new chars)? (r/sto) | |
Worked for me in Hong Kong. Had to VPN to get the game to work in China. (r/sto) | |
Same here.
That said, I started playing before the official Mac client came out, via a Wine wrapper, and I guess I'll go back to that. (r/sto) | |
It's gotten *so much easier and less grindy* to keep alts up with Admiralty—before Admiralty, my main was my only character with more than a couple of spec points. Now they've all (6) finished at least two trees. (r/sto) | |
Oh hell yes. I've been hoping for an "ancient" Pol Omni. (r/sto) | |
My main is in RSE, and I have an alt in RA. Don't worry about it. (r/sto) | |
Yeah, IIRC there are a couple of other places too but I don't remember where. (r/sto) | |
That's not the issue /u/norcalerST & /u/SphynxSTO are talking about. (r/sto) | |
Currently flying AP because meta, but I've really enjoyed Polaron drain builds and might go back to it at some point.
Coalition disruptors have (had? did it change?) the best sound though. (r/sto) | |
I like the ship name. :) (r/stobuilds) | |
I used to see this when using wine to run STO on mac before the official wrapper came out. The official wrapper doesn't do this. (r/sto) | |
Yup, that's the one. I guess maybe they don't look like green blocks on higher graphics settings? (r/sto) | |
One of the new craftable consumables also does it. Don't remember which one. (r/sto) | |
The Breen console set is from the ships; the Breen space set is 3/4 from mission content and 1/4 from the winter event store. (r/stobuilds) | |
> * Added a "Delete Multiple" feature to the Mail UI.
Related feature request: "take all items". Handy for 800 "exchange sale expired" messages. (r/sto) | |
OK. So it *is* a shotgun nerf, though. Sadface. (r/sto) | |
So is this a shotgun/TR-116 nerf? (r/sto) | |
Squee. (r/sto) | |
@hmallow42 (r/sto) | |
Take Cover is great to take into ground queues. (You should have one of your ground boffs trained in it for battlezones too.) (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I've basically left my Starfleet or Starfleet-aligned Romulan characters all standing next to a security officer to hit the two-at-a-time prisoner dump as often as possible. Ugh. (r/sto) | |
OK, so I can't skip a day but it's still possible. Phew. Thanks! (r/sto) | |
(Mac player here.) The "sorry you couldn't log in for a week" bonus means my main is covered, but I'm still trying to grind it on my 5 alts (because I'm an idiot). I'm at 6/14 (today will be 7/14); if I do MIN every day do I still have time to complete the event? (r/sto) | |
I have successfully played STO from hotels in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea, without doing any VPN shenanigans. Something tells me the blocker isn't very good. (r/sto) | |
The Counter-Command set's weapon is a turret. In your choice of Phaser or Disruptor. (r/sto) | |
> inb4 plasma nerf
hahahahahahaha, you would need a time machine to do that. (r/sto) | |
I don't understand the argument that it should have a Pilot seat because of one line in a movie. The vast majority of times we see Excelsior-class ships in canon, they're pulling up alongside the D to pick up or drop off the annoying Admiral-of-the-week. (Or getting blown up by the Dominion, to be fair.) Command seems like the right spec for this ship.
s/LtC Eng/LtC Uni/ makes sense to me. (r/sto) | |
I hit 150K on a bunch and stayed there for a long time before figuring out how to turn them into flarks at the starbase. Sad face. (r/sto) | |
I bet that looks pretty cool! :) (r/sto) | |
Antiproton guns aren't supposed to be white? Wow. I did not know that. (/me has only played on Mac.) (r/sto) | |
I've always played on Mac, but I started playing before the official Mac client came out. Back then I used CrossOver.
I still had it installed, so fired it up when the official client stopped working. Took a while to patch, but it's working fine for the moment. (r/sto) | |
You have described me. (r/sto) | |
How do you track people who subscribe to your blog in an RSS reader? (r/sto) | |
I hope so! Please please please! (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I know. I just don't have any idea how you know people are subscribers. That's not how HTTP works. :) (r/sto) | |
How do you count subscriptions? I mean, I'm subscribed to your blog in an RSS reader. How do you even know this to count me? (r/sto) | |
If I wasn't flying my Annorax all the time, I would be in my Fleet Dauntless. (r/stobuilds) | |
See also https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/wiki/tspbasicboffguide (r/sto) | |
Of course this cuts the other way too. Make a Klingon of actually normal stature (5'9", say) and check out how outsized all of the bat'leths are. (r/sto) | |
Aren't they bound on pickup? (r/STOTrades) | |
Also, some thoughts on what to name DSDs: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/1xo3i2/some_thoughts_on_naming_your_shiny_new_dsd/ (r/sto) | |
Starfleet ship classes often have names that draw from some theme, and I try to fit my ship names into those themes. Some examples:
* The Luna class (RSV, MDSSV, FRSV) are all named for moons in the Sol system. My main (a Vulcan Science officer)'s first T5 ship was an MDSSV, which I named ISS Metis. A moon of Jupiter, Metis is named for Zeus' first wife, who was a goddess of wisdom, deep thought, and cunning. Seemed appropriate for a Vulcan flying an MU ship.
* This character's Support Cruiser Retrofit (Ambassador class) is named USS Soval, after the Vulcan ambassador in ENT.
My Klingon's ships are all named for characters in the Klingon Hamlet: roSenQatlh, ghIlDeSten, etc.
I just accept the default names on my Romulan characters.
(edit: formatting) (r/sto) | |
That does seem like the simplest, best solution to this problem. (r/sto) | |
I really hope we get a T6 D'Kyr with some interesting new pieces to kit bash with the existing model. (r/sto) | |
I wanted Gamma and Delta to somehow both lose their round. :) (r/sto) | |
They look the same.
RIP Beta, Theta, and Sigma. (r/sto) | |
In order of creation:
* Fed Sci (main)
* KDF Eng
* Rom-Fed Tac
* Rom-KDF Tac
* Fed Eng (Delta Recruit)
* KDF Sci (Delta Recruit)
Two of each faction if you count Rom as a faction; three of each if you don't. Two of each class. Seemed like the most even way to spread things out without making a dozen characters.
(Edit: formatting) (r/sto) | |
I'm pretty sure every design I vote on loses. (r/sto) | |
RomKDF is the best DF. You get both the Leech and the Valdore console. (r/sto) | |
That would be really cool. And with repeatable last 2 missions granting the Terran Elite Mark. (r/sto) | |
I'm running DBBs on my Annorax. Like Mastajdog's WIP, it's got a big, big GW (+Grav Embassy consoles, GW3, Conductive RCS +Grav). Antiproton DBBs, Ico 4pc. I'll try to remember to post the build tonight when I get home. Offhand the seats are:
* KLW1 / APB1 / FAW3
* FAW1 / TT2 / OSS3 (edit: forgot about OSS)
* EPtW1
* ET1 / EPtW2
* ST1 / HE2 / DRB1 / GW3
I've hit 39k DPS in it. I bet it would get much more if it was flown by someone who doesn't suck at piloting as much as I do. (r/stobuilds) | |
**Overthink the Plumbing** — Fail an assignment with a T3 Advanced Heavy Cruiser, then succeed on the same assignment with a T2 Cruiser. (r/sto) | |
Given that the ground set has 4 pieces (due to the two weapons), I'd love to see a 4pc boost. like, a clicky that gives the active weapon some awesomeness from the other one. (r/sto) | |
I have both the Dyson and Delta sets. Which would you pick? I guess Dyson is better suited for the Voth BZ.
I'll look into my ground DOFF setup when I next play. Offhand I have no idea what I have slotted, or what I have available. I've really only paid attention to my space and R&D DOFFs. (r/stobuilds) | |
I've never really put much thought into ground builds, so this is really useful. Thanks!
My main is very well geared, so all of my BOFFs can run with Rep ground sets. Here's how I distributed them based on your setup:
* Captain (Sci) - CC 4pc, Cochrane shotgun
* Eng/Cmd - MACO 3pc
* Sci/Cmd - Omega 3pc
* Sci/Int - Ico 3pc
* Tac/Int - AMACO 3pc
Here's my rationale:
* For Ground queues, CC seems to be the current winner, so that's on my character.
* In battlezones, I want my BOFFs to use Rep sets whose 2- or 3pc bonuses have a team bonus, so the Cmd BOFFs get MACO & Omega, with the Sci/Cmd getting Omega per your guide.
* The two Int BOFFs arbitrarily got the Ico and AMACO sets.
Thoughts? (r/stobuilds) | |
If you've dismissed the free T1–4 ships you get while leveling, I assume they're not available to you as admiralty cards. Which is too bad but fair enough.
Could you at least give us all Miranda/B'Rel/T'Liss cards, since everyone was definitely issued them at character creation time? (r/sto) | |
Beta. (r/sto) | |
Why would the True Way ally with the Terran Empire when they could ally with (whatever's left of) the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance? I don't think Terrans like Cardassians much. (r/sto) | |
What? No, it's still there. (r/sto) | |
Before the loadout system I had a bunch of duplicate rep gear on my main, because I couldn't be bothered laboriously moving things from ship to ship. In hindsight it was quite a waste of dil. (r/sto) | |
Are people still seeing this? I'm hoping to get my CCA runs in tonight, or I think I'll miss finishing the event on several characters. (r/sto) | |
Phasers with the Distruptor proc, and Disruptors with the Phaser proc. (r/sto) | |
Only in the summer event when using floater, and in A Step Between Stars in the EV suit. (r/sto) | |
The Breen 2pc doesn't get you anything; none of your torpedoes are transphasic. I guess you're running the set for the 3pc siphon?
You'd probably be better off with the AMACO/HG 2pc. (r/stobuilds) | |
The FESV is really underrated. (r/stobuilds) | |
I've gone all-turrets on carriers before, for the BSG feels. Pretty fun to fly too. Get CRF all up on that thing. (r/stobuilds) | |
I needed fleddits the other day so I went through all of the open projects in our armada, robotically filling projects up. Had never seen a project that took fleddits before, so I ended up donating all of my fleddits to one of these. Grumble grumble. That's what I get for not reading! (r/sto) | |
The [STO Wiki](http://sto.gamepedia.com/) has a good list of [Bridge Officer traits](http://sto.gamepedia.com/Bridge_Officer_traits).
Also on the STO Wiki, the list of [Bridge Officer abilities](http://sto.gamepedia.com/Bridge_officer_ability) categorizes abilities by how you can obtain them. Note the purple ones on that page—they are the ones that are only available by turning BOFF candidates into training manuals. (r/sto) | |
Also, some BOFFs sell well on the Exchange even if they don't have anything going for them, skill- and trait-wise. The most obvious example are Orion females. (r/sto) | |
Basically, BOFFs are valuable for their traits and their abilities. Abilities are trainable, but traits can't be changed. So your goal should be for all of your BOFFs to have nice traits, and to convert other candidates to training manuals for their rarest ability. Note that this might not be their commander-level ability.
Most valuable space trait is Superior Romulan Operative. If your character isn't a Romulan, the Rare (Blue) Rom Tac BOFF you can buy at your fleet embassy is your only way to get this trait.
Other decent space traits are Pirate (which is hard to get for Feds; hence everyone saying to get a Nausicaan as your Rank 4 Diplomacy BOFF), Leadership (humans), Efficient.
I don't know much about ground traits.
(edit: s/skill/ability/g) (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I got it on box 7. Word. (r/sto) | |
It would be nice if it actually caused proton damage, now that that's a thing in the game, too. (r/sto) | |
Congratulations, you win the snark award!
Look, the patch notes say "Vulcan eyes added back in for Vulcans." Which implies that there is a Vulcan eye style distinct from ordinary humanoid ones that was in the game at some point but got removed and is now re-added. What I'm wondering is: how do these eyes differ from the regular humanoid ones? I'm not at home so can't pull up the tailor to find out.
Maybe they have inner eyelids? (r/sto) | |
Yeah, for some at least. I don't see why the Jem'Hadar BOFF should always be available and the Breen & Reman not. (r/sto) | |
What are Vulcan eyes? (r/sto) | |
I love the PTOO PTOO. I might have to get some of these weapons just for the PTOO PTOO. (r/sto) | |
Looking forward to taking [my Tal'Kyr build](https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/2o2pbt/advice_how_to_improve_my_talkyr_build/) out for a spin again. (r/sto) | |
Or melee weapons. (r/sto) | |
I realized at like 2 AM that I had 2 unused Delta Vanguard upgrades sitting in my Deltalt's bank. Got up, logged in, and used those suckers before the upgrade weekend ended. (r/sto) | |
I stupidly reran Delta Flight because I thought I could equip multiple Polaric Modulators. (r/stobuilds) | |
The KDF-Rom outfit makes a passable version of the 20th Century Vulcan uniform: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/3/34/Vulcan_Captain_20th_century_uniform.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20050918181146&path-prefix=en (r/sto) | |
They are, yeah. (r/sto) | |
OMG, how did I not know that you can have multiple Breen cluster torps. (r/stobuilds) | |
The Romulan robes you can buy at the embassy tailor make a pretty passable Vulcan outfit if you use lots of blue & turn off the raptor pendant thing. (r/sto) | |
The Tal'Kyr is one of the best shuttles in the game. [Edit: It's also worth noting that your Fed-Rom characters can use it too!] (r/sto) | |
I planned to have the middle part of the mission focused on running around the ship interior, fixing things and getting it operational & out of space dock. Was just hoping to have the final act be space combat. (r/stofoundry) | |
Basically, the Iconians attack Earth with some kind of technobabble device in orbit that disables all isolinear circuitry in the area. The player would then pull a ship with duotronics out of the fleet museum & destroy the device with it. (r/stofoundry) | |
Makes sense. Oh well. (r/stofoundry) | |
I expect it'll be the next R&D Pack promo reward, like the Sheshar. (r/sto) | |
I expect it'll be an R&D pack promo, like the Sheshar. (r/sto) | |
I wonder if its proton damage is boosted by the Protonic Arsenal set console or the Dyson rep auto-targeting tac consoles. (r/sto) | |
Is it possible for a foundry mission to have the player pilot a canned ship (like the DSD in A Step Between Stars)? (r/stofoundry) | |
MetaSnoo (r/sto) | |
I thought he was a drunk who just stood around in Club 47 all day. (r/sto) | |
I just use the built in keyboard and trackpad on my laptop, or the standard Apple wireless keyboard & trackpad on my desktop. (r/sto) | |
Quickest thing you can do shield-wise is to buy a (Rare) Resilient Shield Array Mk II [Cap]x2 off of the exchange. It'll be cheap, you can get it right away, and it'll do until you get rep shields. (r/stobuilds) | |
Awesome! (r/sto) | |
I don't think I've ever seen it come up. (r/sto) | |
I see them a lot. It's great for accumulating Nukara & Romulan marks for alts that aren't geared up yet. (r/sto) | |
Awesome! (r/sto) | |
@hmallow42 (r/sto) | |
wat (r/stobuilds) | |
Got one. Planning to sell it. Should I bank it and wait for a few months before selling it, or should I list it on the exchange now? (r/sto) | |
I made two Delta Recruits, both modeled on long-time BOFFs of my non-DR characters. So I kinda already had some mental/emotional investment in them. I'll be keeping both around. (r/sto) | |
If it's like the other arc redos, all characters will be able to play through the redone missions. (r/sto) | |
Yeah, the doffs are me being super lazy. What would you suggest instead? (r/stobuilds) | |
[Here's my sciscort-ish build using it.](http://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/35yw1h/preserver_resonant_technologies_build/) (r/sto) | |
No, I just spacebar once per target. (r/stobuilds) | |
One thought: Should I replace one of the fore torpedoes with a disruptor DHC? If so, what kind? Bio-Molecular [CrtD]x2 given the CC 2pc, or some other kind of disruptor? (r/stobuilds) | |
Min/maxing aside, this is a really fun build to fly. There's something so satisfying about GW1+TS3+CSV3. (r/stobuilds) | |
Preserver Resonant Technologies build (r/stobuilds) | |
I enjoy flying "rainbow" boats where all the pretty colors are actually the same damage type. (r/stobuilds) | |
Gerren goes much faster than Argala. (r/sto) | |
THIS (r/sto) | |

Resilient shields that automagically cleanse debuffs periodically? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MARKS! (r/sto) | |
Unique Borg BOFF != Liberated Borg character for the purposes of this, so I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. :/ (r/sto) | |
Oh, hey, awesome. I'll try that tonight. Thanks! (r/sto) | |
Prior to the Delta Recruitment event I had four chars (Fed Sci, KDF Eng, Rom/Fed Tac, Rom/KDF Tac). So, like OP, my first Delta Recruit is a (Liberated Borg) Fed Eng based on the Fed Sci's Liberated Borg Chief Engineer BOFF.
I haven't made the models fully match yet; I still need to take screenshots of the head and body sliders.
But yeah, if there was an in-game mechanic to simplify the process, that would be awesome! (r/sto) | |
OK, cool, thanks! (r/sto) | |
And there are enough open slots for lots of current members to add their Delta recruitment alts? (r/sto) | |
New Delta alts and Reddit fleets (r/sto) | |
I love my Fleet B'Rel. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A T6 INTEL/PILOT B'REL PLEASE (r/sto) | |
Might just be a time zone thing. I haven't had any trouble farming BNPs on Defera late-night West Coast of North America time. (r/sto) | |
Run the hard missions on Defera Ground. 4 BNPs a day. (r/sto) | |
That...would actually be super awesome. (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I'd love to see a T6 Pilot/Intel B'Rel. (r/sto) | |
Use VIP claims and only do it during the bonus dilithium event. Then you get 10K for doing the mini game once. (r/sto) | |
New location of the Planet of Galactic Peace (r/sto) | |
I have a code but haven't been able to use it. (I'm on Mac so I don't have Arc, and there's no non-Arc way to use the code.) (r/sto) | |
I tried replacing the leech with a decent sci console, but found the shuttle to be squishier as a result. I'll probably switch back to the leech. (r/stobuilds) | |
It could be the Mirror Cooperative, who are presumably as evil as the regular Collective. (r/sto) | |
I use the Protonic Arsenal 3-piece on my shuttle build. I fly at Tal'Kyr, which doesn't have a tac console slot, so this is a really great set for boosting damage on it. I pair it with the adapted MACO 2-piece bonus for extra gravtorp booms.
Here's the build; any and all advice on improving it welcome!

"The Q we see ingame is that Q's son, Q."
Really? I must have missed that. (r/sto) | |
Thanks! I'll post what I came up with too. I've just tried to match the Kobali General uniform thus far, though. (r/sto) | |
Kobali costume colors (r/sto) | |
I hope this change goes along with expanding the accessible areas of the Alpha Quadrant. (r/sto) | |
"With the launch of Season 10 Sector Space will be comprised of only three maps, with each one representing a quadrant that exists in STO. Yes, the sector walls are coming down!" (r/sto) | |
I use the 3-piece on my shuttle build—the Tal'Kyr doesn't have any tac console slots, so this 3-piece plus the AMACO 2-piece gives it a big punch.
Edit: here's the build http://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/2o2pbt/advice_how_to_improve_my_talkyr_build/ (r/stobuilds) | |
Yup! Gerrren4evah! (r/sto) | |
D'Kyr is upgradeable. (r/sto) | |
FWIW, I'm quite fond of the Dauntless. (r/stobuilds) | |
The TR-116b can be crafted. The O.G. TR-116 can't be. (r/sto) | |
He's useful for ground missions, at least. (r/sto) | |
I often play STO on my mid-2012 11" MacBook Air, with all the graphics settings set to Low. It keeps the fans going the whole time but if you don't mind that noise it's quite playable. (r/sto) | |
If you do such a build, which pieces do you pick? I'm thinking Breen warp core and shields, and AMACO deflector and impulse engines. My only rationale is that the Breen shield is resilient, and resilient shields are always better. Thoughts? (r/stobuilds) | |
The new Breen cores and torpedo builds (r/stobuilds) | |
If the faction mechanics prevent them from having a Romulan Republic security officer at New Romulus (and the Flotilla), at least put both Starfleet and KDF security officers there. (r/sto) | |
No, the Tal'Kyr only has two weapons, like most if not all shuttles. (r/stobuilds) | |
Your post inspired me to write up my current shuttle build: http://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/2o2pbt/advice_how_to_improve_my_talkyr_build/ (r/stobuilds) | |
[Advice] How to improve my Tal'Kyr build? (r/stobuilds) | |
All three pieces of the Protonic Arsenal: put the console in your sci or eng slot, and put a [+PhP] Auto Targeting Module in your tac console slot. The 2pc bonus and the tac console boost the torp, and the uni and tac consoles boost the EPW. (r/stobuilds) | |
Congratulations, Captain Marrone! :) (r/sto) | |
Oooooooooooh. (r/sto) | |
Yeah, I really wish they spaced things out more. I mean, you hit LtCmdr at level 10! If they had all the ranks from canon (including the on-again, off-again Commodore) we'd just be hitting Rear Admiral, Upper Half (if you leave the promotion points where they currently are, and just rename things):
Level | Current rank | Proposed rank
------|--------------------------|--------------------------
1 | Cadet/Ensign | Cadet
3 | Lieutenant | Ensign
10 | Lieutenant Commander | Lieutenant J.G.
20 | Commander | Lieutenant
30 | Captain | Lieutenant Commander
40 | Rear Admiral, Lower Half | Commander
45 | Rear Admiral, Upper Half | Captain
50 | Vice Admiral | Commodore
55 | Admiral | Rear Admiral, Lower Half
60 | Fleet Admiral | Rear Admiral, Upper Half
65 | N/A | Vice Admiral
70 | N/A | Admiral
75 | N/A | Fleet Admiral
(r/sto) | |
Mid-2012 11" MacBook Air. STO really gets the fans going. (r/sto) | |
I'm on Mac and it works for me. What hardware are you on? (r/sto) | |
The Luna is great—it's like a Vesta without a hangar. (r/stobuilds) | |
How do you claim the 3 ship upgrade tokens included in the Delta Rising pack? (r/sto) | |
I have three characters: one Starfleet, one Klingon, and one (Fed-aligned) Romulan. It would be cool if such a system let you establish such cross-char relationships in a cross-faction way. There are plenty of story vehicles already in STO for that—maybe your characters met while working for Dyson Joint Command. (r/sto) | |
Gahhhhh. Dear Cryptic—none of your Mac users are Arc users. (r/sto) | |
Me too! Super tempted to T5-U it now. (r/sto) | |
I think maybe I got the mission granted yesterday when I logged in, but I didn't go to the pickup point.
Today when logging in it said I dropped the mission, and Lt. Tirar doesn't offer me the upgrade packs. I see no way to get them. (r/sto) | |
I'm looking forward to more blog posts about Delta Rising. Blog posts, not blogs. </peeve> (r/sto) | |
My take on what a MACO dress uniform might look like in the Odyssey uniform era. (r/sto) | |
[costume] MACO Dress Uniform (r/sto) | |
He should add them to Blackavaar's Canon Color Guide if at all possible.
http://sto.gamepedia.com/Blackavaar%27s_Canon_Color_Guide (r/sto) | |
Why the Dyson shield? Wouldn't a resilient shield be better? (r/stobuilds) | |
He's posted an enlisted dress uniform guide: https://twitter.com/Cryptic_TtC/status/489278541012287488 (r/sto) | |
Put the EPW in the back. (r/stobuilds) | |
Lobi ship. @hmallow42 (r/sto) | |
Replace the AP turret with the Experimental Proton Weapon. The across-the-board CrtD boost all your weapons get from the 3-piece set bonus will out-DPS the turret. (r/stobuilds) | |
Besides the boosts you mention, another part of the Protonic Arsenal's 3-piece bonus is simply 10% CrtD across the board, to all the damage you can deal. Totally worth it. (r/stobuilds) | |
Is the color of the Odyssey Dress shoulder strap linked to the across-the-chest stripe color, or can they differ? (r/sto) | |
I didn't realize anyone bothered with the two Dyson PvE queue missions. The ground battlezone is the One True Source of Dyson marks. (r/sto) | |
OK, thanks everybody. I'm in. (r/sto) | |
Well I'm one of those rare Snoos! :) (r/sto) | |
Cross-faction rank matching in Reddit fleets? (r/sto) | |
During the FE event I re-run Cold Comfort a bunch on whatever character doesn't yet have a full set of rapid-reload transphasics for their Breen-set boat. (r/sto) | |
Omnis for all energy types? That is really, really exciting! (r/sto) | |
You only need 2 pieces of the Breen set to get the transphasic damage boost. Drop the Breen shields and go with Resilient shields instead. (r/stobuilds) | |
Perfect, thanks!
Unfortunately the KDF color palette doesn't have anything resembling that purple. (r/sto) | |
"Official" color scheme(s) for the Dyson Joint Command uniforms? (r/sto) | |
@hmallow42 for the Lobi ship. Thanks! (r/sto) | |
It would be a lot friendlier to have the Zen sale right *before* the Master Key sale, not right *afterwards*. (r/sto) | |
Leave Nimbus in your inventory and it'll still work. (r/stobuilds) | |
I'm not yet far enough along in Omega rep to get a KCB. Currently prioritizing Dyson rep for the EPW and Protonic Polaron weapons. (r/stobuilds) | |
You could use a capital Mu and lowercase omicrons. Μοnitοr (r/sto) | |
I'm also thinking of switching to GWI, so that I can GW in both Tac and Sci mode. (r/stobuilds) | |
Re: Beam Arrays v. Cannons, I have one Beam Array fore and aft for 360° subsystem targeting. That said, I'll probably transition the ship to cannons-fore,turrets-aft and forgo subsystem targeting.
Thanks for pointing out GW+TS; I'll look into that. I've already got a Subspace Integration Circuit on there. (r/stobuilds) | |
For dealing lots of kinetic damage when flying past something I just killed the shields of? Maybe that scenario isn't common enough to justify not having a turret there; I dunno. WDYT? (r/stobuilds) | |
I should also really move GWII to that BOFF's LtCmdr slot so I can GW while in Tactical Mode. (r/stobuilds) | |
The most obvious problem is that none of my Sci BOFFs have any of the abilities which the Solanae Secondary Deflector boosts. (r/stobuilds) | |
Err, trying to fix the table. (r/stobuilds) | |
Dyson Surveillance Science Destroyer build - Advice sought (r/stobuilds) | |
What's the Tau Dewa Sector Patrol equivalent for the other rep systems? (r/sto) | |
Some thoughts on naming your shiny new DSD (r/sto) | |
Is that true? I thought protonic polarons are "only polarons" for the purposes of console or set boosting. (r/stobuilds) | |
First world problem: the Solanae class is definitely the ugliest of the three Dyson Science Destroyers, but my Starfleet character is my only sci. (r/sto) | |
The biggest issue I've had so far is that I can't get gamepads to work.
I'm also seeing the every-other-run-Launcher-crash you mentioned. (r/sto) | |
Here's the relevant part of the official forums: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/forumdisplay.php?f=411 (r/sto) | |
(Hello from behind the Great Firewall, btw. Thanks, VPN + SOCKS! (r/sto) | |
Nope, for work. (r/sto) | |
First World STO Problems: I'll be in China when Season 8 drops. STO is blocked in China, even though PWE is a Chinese company. (r/sto) | |
